Elton John has praised Scotland for producing 'soulful singers' ahead of his set at Glastonbury.
The Rocket Man singer sat down with BBC's Clara Amfo to discuss his 'Guide to Glastonbury' when he spoke fondly of Scots singers Joesef and Paolo Nutini.
Sitting in Elton's room full of thousands of vinyls, Clara said: "Let's talk about Joesef! How do you feel about the male voice in 2023? He's not a roarer or a belter there's a softness in his voice.
Elton said: "Boys are making some really beautiful records, using their voices soulfully and it's lovely to hear, Joesef is so special I think. He's obviously a Scottish boy....
Clara interjects: "Which a lot of people don't realise I don't think!
Elton added: "There's always been a lot of soulful singers from Scotland, he's just been in America touring and I just missed him by a millisecond! He's someone who I think has got a great future and this album for me (Permanent Damage) is a killer album, I play it all the time.
"A bit like the Paolo Nutini album from last year, another Scottish boy, which I thought was one of the albums of the year but Joesef is pretty special."
Speaking interviewing him before over zoom, Elton said: "When you see him and when you interview him, there's this beautiful vulnerability about him which I love."
Joesef took to Instagram to say he was delighted to hear Sir Elton's recent comments.
He wrote: "woke up to these kind words from the legend himself @eltonjohn and icon @claraamfo!! u can watch eltons picks for glasto on @bbciplayer rn, this must mean everyone has to come see us play at @glastofest 7pm Lonely Hearts stage fr."
And Elton replied in the comments: "You’ll rock it this weekend, @joesefjoesefjoesef."
This is not the first time Elton has praised Joesef's work.
Last April, Joesef was a guest on The Rocket Hour on Apple Music and was left in disbelief by Elton's confession, saying that he never thought he'd ever find himself chatting the to the icon.
The Rocket Man singer started the pod by saying to Joesef: "I'm so excited to talk to you because I’m in love with your music, I'm in love with your voice…"
Joesef replied and told listeners how he got into music, saying: "Oh my god, this is very surreal for me. I kind of started out just making tunes in by bedroom, just plugging my guitar into my laptop.
"I didn't really know what I was doing. My best mate, who is now my manager, heard me singing at an open mic night and became my manager and we just kind of rolled with it. And now I am here talking to Elton John on The Rocket Hour."
