Elton John in Sunderland: Stage times and when to arrive at the Stadium of Light

It’s not long now until Sunderland will be packed full of Elton John fans as the iconic singer brings his Farewell tour to the Stadium of Light this Sunday.

The star will take to the stage on 19 June to treat Wearside fans to some of his greatest hits as he continues his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, in what promises to be a spectacular show. But with the Stadium holding capacity for a whopping 60,000 fans, concert-goers are being urged to make sure they get their timings right on the day.

With Ed Sheeran ’s appearance at the Stadium earlier this month showing just how busy things can get when a superstar comes to Sunderland, fans are being advised to arrive hours in advance of Elton taking to the stage. Here are the timings and key pieces of advice issued from the Stadium of Light.

What time should I arrive?

The doors to the Stadium of Light will open at 4:30pm on Sunday - although this is two and a half hours before Elton is scheduled to come on stage, those attending the gig are advised to arrive early as queues are expected. With concert-goers reporting long waits for Metros while travelling to the Stadium to see Ed Sheeran, attendees should allow plenty of extra time to get there.

There are several entrances into the stadium - but visitors won’t be able to walk into just any entrance. To help manage queues each ticket has a colour-coded entry point on it, so check your ticket to see which entry gate you will need to head to on the day.

When does Elton come on?

Elton is set to take to the stage at 7pm, and the concert will wrap up around 9:45pm according to the Stadium of Light’s website. These timings are only approximate and could change on the day.

There is no support act lined up, so fans will be treated to Elton’s hits for the duration of their time in the Stadium. Earlier this year on his North America leg of the tour the singer belted out more than 20 songs per show, performing some of his most iconic classics including Rocketman, I’m Still Standing and Candle in the Wind.
