Elon Musk Said 'Love You Too' to Shivon Zilis Days Before a Breakup She Says Came With No Warning

Shivon Zilis said on X on 2 October that her romantic relationship with Elon Musk had ended 'with no warning.' Eight days earlier, a screenshot she shared appeared to show Musk replying, 'Love you too', during an affectionate text exchange.

Zilis, Neuralink's director of operations and special projects, said she was 'hurting' but hoped she and Musk could remain friends and co-parents. As of 3 October, Musk had not publicly addressed the breakup.

Zilis and Musk share four children, twins Strider and Azure, daughter Arcadia and son Seldon Lycurgus. The pair had largely kept details of their romantic relationship private.

Their history is also more complicated than a straightforward dating timeline. During testimony earlier in 2026, Zilis described an earlier romantic encounter with Musk and a later platonic sperm-donor arrangement. She said their relationship subsequently developed into a romantic partnership.

Shivon Zilis Says Elon Musk Breakup Came 'With No Warning'

Zilis centred her 2 October post on what she described as the sudden nature of the separation.

'It's hard to go from in love to let go in a week with no warning, but that's just how it is sometimes,' she wrote.

She did not accuse Musk of misconduct or identify a particular dispute that led to the breakup. Instead, her statement focused on loss, affection and the family they had created together.

Zilis said she was grateful that she had been able to make Musk feel 'deeply understood, nurtured, and peacefully loved with stability and gentleness.' She added that she hoped the care she gave him would have a lasting positive effect.

She also described herself and their children as Musk's 'safe space.' Zilis said their home provided happiness and calm in contrast with what she called his otherwise 'militant existence'.

Her comments remained affectionate despite her description of the split. Zilis wrote that she would miss Musk dearly and said she had loved him 'more than life itself.'

She also credited Musk with changing her life, writing that he had taught her '100 lifetimes of knowledge.' Zilis then turned to their children and what she hoped their relationship could become.

'I do hope and pray he and I can be great friends and coparents,' she wrote.

Screenshot Appeared To Show 'Love You Too' Reply

The screenshot accompanying Zilis's post was dated 24 September, eight days before she publicly discussed the breakup.

In the exchange, Zilis appeared to tell Musk that it had been wonderful to see him for breakfast before saying she loved him very much. The screenshot appeared to show Musk responding, 'Love you too.'

Because the image was published by Zilis, the exchange should be understood as evidence she supplied rather than an independently authenticated private conversation. Musk had not publicly disputed the screenshot as of 3 October.

Its timing is nevertheless central to Zilis's account. She presented the affectionate exchange alongside her statement that she had gone from being 'in love to let go' within a week.

That contrast became a key part of the attention surrounding her post. Rather than alleging wrongdoing, Zilis portrayed the breakup as a sudden change that she had not expected.

Elon Musk Has Not Publicly Explained The Split

As of 3 October, Musk had not publicly explained the breakup or responded to Zilis's account of how it happened.

That leaves the circumstances surrounding the separation publicly known largely through Zilis's description. She did not identify a specific incident or disagreement that caused the relationship to end.

The pair's family history became public several years earlier. Court records disclosed in 2022 showed that Musk and Zilis welcomed twins Strider and Azure in Austin, Texas, in November 2021.

They later had a third child, Arcadia. Musk publicly confirmed the arrival of their third child in June 2024, saying friends and family already knew about the baby.

On 28 February 2025, while marking Arcadia's first birthday, Zilis announced that she and Musk also had a son named Seldon Lycurgus. The announcement did not disclose Seldon's exact birth date. Musk responded to the post with a heart emoji.
