Trump Musk Interview Rambles Through Inflation, Taxes, Trade, Education And Nuclear Power (Live Coverage)

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk said his interview with former President Donald Trump was disrupted by a cyberattack that caused a delay and prevented many users from gaining access to the page on X.

Musk, who has endorsed Trump, wrote on X, formerly Twitter, Sunday that the interview would  be "unscripted with no limits on subject matter, so should be highly entertaining!"

Trump Musk Interview Ends

The conversation ends. It highlighted a newly chummy relationship between Trump and Musk. The Tesla CEO at times echoed the former president's talking points.

Musk made a couple of key points, including an overt plea for what he calls a "government efficiency commission" as a way to cut back on wasteful government spending.  Trump used the interview to slam the Biden administration on inflation, saying "we've got to get the prices down." He also criticized several federal agencies, including the Department of Education and the FDA.

Trump slams the current FDA drug approval process, saying "the FDA takes too long," and claiming he approved therapeutics at "numbers they wouldn't believe, and it's very bureaucratic." He mentioned his 2018 signing of a "right to try" law, which he says lets people try unapproved drugs that haven't received FDA approval.

Musk responds to a letter from the EU warning him of spreading misinformation on the platform, saying "there's a lot of attempts to force censorship on other countries."

Musk says "I don't think we should vilify the oil and gas industries," saying the economy depends on such energy sources. But he does say he wants the U.S. to move to "a more sustainable economy" due to environmental pollution, saying "eventually it gets uncomfortable to breathe."

Trump says "people have been absolutely decimated" by inflation. "We've got to get the prices down," he said.

He says he wants to close the Department of Education and move education back to the states. "Not every state will do great," Trump pointed out. He also said, "Of the 50... I would bet that 35 would do great."

Musk Says Cyberattack Disrupted Trump Interview

In a post on X, Musk blamed a DDOS attack for the difficulties users faced when attempting to join the Trump interview. A DDOS attack, which stands for Distributed Denial Of Service, occurs when malicious users overwhelm a server with simple requests for access. Sites can experience a similar load when seeing a surge in traffic, often making it difficult to distinguish the two.

Trump Interview: Running Behind

The highly anticipated interview between former president Donald Trump and Elon Musk appears to be running behind. Those hoping to catch the conversation on the X social media platform were met with technical difficulties Monday afternoon. Multiple users complained that they were unable to join the space hosted by Donald J. Trump's user profile to listen to the broadcast. As of 5:20pm PT 200,000 people were waiting for the interview to commence.
