From mixing up Iceland and Greenland to Gavin Newsom‘s cutting criticisms, the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, has seen its share of ups and downs for Donald Trump. And on Thursday, Jan 22, 2025, Elon Musk made his first appearance and joined in, taking a shot at Trump’s recently formed “Board of Peace.”
In his interview, Musk said, “I heard about the formation of the peace summit,” meaning Trump’s Board of Peace, a newly established and controversial international organization chaired by Trump that many see as a potential rival to the UN.
In his remarks, Musk continued, “I was like, is that p-i-e-c-e? You know, a little piece of Greenland, a little piece of Venezuela. All we want is peace,” Musk added sarcastically, to laughter from the audience.

Trump formally launched the Board of Peace at a signing ceremony on Jan. 22, 2026, in Davos, presenting it as an international organization aimed at promoting peace, stability, and post-conflict reconstruction, with an initial focus on the Gaza ceasefire and rebuilding efforts. Trump is the board’s chair, and officials from around 19 countries signed the founding charter with him.
According to the White House, the board intends to mobilize global resources, enforce accountability, and guide reconstruction, with Trump calling it a potentially “most consequential” body for peace efforts.
Some diplomats and analysts have raised multilateral concerns, warning that the Board of Peace could undermine the United Nations’ traditional role in peace mediation and conflict resolution because its charter and structure operate outside established UN frameworks.
At the same time, key U.S. allies, including the United Kingdom and several Western European nations, have declined to join or voiced skepticism, citing legal, diplomatic, and geopolitical reservations, particularly surrounding Russia’s potential involvement and questions about the board’s broader legitimacy.
Political tensions have also surfaced, with Trump abruptly withdrawing an invitation to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney after Carney criticized the initiative, underscoring how politically charged the effort has become among international leaders.

As Musk’s Davos quote spread, comments reflected skepticism of Trump’s true motive. One noted, “Even his own hype man sees right through the charade: this isn’t about global harmony, it’s about carving up the map like a Thanksgiving turkey. When ‘World Peace’ sounds suspiciously like a hostile real estate acquisition strategy, the joke is literally on the rest of us.”
Another added, “Davos laughed because the joke landed. ‘Board of Peace’ sounding a lot like ‘Board of Pieces.’ Greenland. Venezuela. What’s next? Words matter. Power matters more.'”
Meanwhile, Musk’s joke comes as his on-again-off-again relationship with Trump seems to have thawed. But as this comment noted, “Elon swinging at Trump again – YAY! Lol.”
