On Monday, successful businessman, Elon Musk, made headlines after social media platform Twitter accepted his bid to take over the company. Mr Musk, said to be worth around $219 billion and the 'world's richest man' according to Forbes' magazine, struck a deal to buy the 16-year-old business for roughly $44 billion (£36.2bn).
The 50-year-old businessman is probably widely known for his involvement in various companies, such as being the founder of Paypal, the founder and CEO for SpaceX, as well as the founder of automotive company Tesla, which you can read more about here. But the billionaire has also enjoyed his fare share of high profile relationships. While the world focuses on his upcoming business venture, we took a look at his personal life, including his latest girlfriend and his new baby with ex-girlfriend, Grimes.
Mr Musk married his first wife, Justine Musk, in 2000. They welcomed their first child, a son called Nevada, in 2002, but they sadly lost him to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome at 10 weeks old. Two years later, the couple welcomed baby twins, Griffin and Xavier, followed by triplets - Saxon, Kai and Damian in 2006. The couple would eventually divorce two years later in 2008. Six weeks after filing for divorce from Justine, the businessman got engaged to English actress Talulah Riley, known for starring in the 2007 film St Trinian's and 2009 movie, The Boat That Rocked. They got married in 2010 but Musk filed for divorce in 2013. They later reconciled and remarried 18 months later, but Riley filed for their second divorce in 2016.
Following his divorce from Talulah Riley, he began dating Hollywood actress, Amber Heard, in 2016, shortly after her split with actor Johnny Depp. But the couple broke up a year later, with Musk admitting he struggled with the split. In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2017 he said: "I was really in love, and it hurt bad". Elon Musk has previously challenged Russian president Vladimir Putin to single combat - you can read about that here.
In the spring of 2018, it was announced that Musk was dating Canadian musician and singer, Grimes. Rumour has it that the two met on Twitter when Musk slid into Grimes' DMs to talk about a pun she had once made about artificial intelligence. The couple made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala the following month.
Two years later, the couple welcomed their first child - a baby boy, in May, 2020. The child was initially called X Æ A-12 (pronounced as 'Ex Ash A Twelve'), however the name had to be changed to X Æ A-Xii due to Californian law, which forbids the inclusion of numbers in a legal name.
The entrepreneur and the singer, whose real name is Claire Boucher, sadly broke up after three years together, with Elon describing them as "semi-separated" but on good terms while co-parenting their son. In an interview with Vanity Fair in March of this year, however, Grimes revealed that the pair were back together and confirmed that they had welcomed their second child - a daughter called Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, via surrogacy in December.
But just hours after the piece was published online, Grimes announced on Twitter that the couple had broken up again. She tweeted: "Me and E have broken up again since the writing of this article haha, but he's my best friend and the love of my life, and my life and art are forever dedicated to The Mission now".
It is now rumoured that the billionaire is dating 27-year-old actress Natasha Bassett. The actress played Britney Spears in a 2017 Lifetime's television biopic film, Britney Ever After.
Bassett also made an appearance in the 2016 comedy film, Hail, Caeser! alongside George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson and Josh Brolin. She also appeared in the 2020 action-comedy movie, Spy Intervention, and is set to appear in the upcoming film Elvis, which will be shown in movie theatres in June of this year.
The actress was photographed exiting Musk's private jet in Los Angeles earlier this year. According to reports, Bassett has been seeing the Tesla CEO for "a couple of months".
