On Super Bowl Sunday, Elon Musk had the opportunity to enjoy some quality family time. The controversial Tesla CEO was spotted in Las Vegas, attending the game alongside one of his sons, X Æ A-Xii, or simply referred to as 'X'. The special moment was captured in a photo shared on Instagram by sports apparel mogul Michael Rubin.
This family outing comes amidst a custody battle between Musk and X's mother, Grimes. The couple shares three children: X, their 2-year-old daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, and their 1-year-old son Techno 'Tau' Mechanicus. Grimes had previously filed a petition in California in September 2023 to establish the legal parentage of their children, as they are unmarried. She had also taken to social media, pleading with Musk to allow her to see their son.
However, just three days before Grimes' legal action, Musk had filed a petition in Texas, seeking to establish himself as the legal parent of their children. In his filing, Musk claimed that he has had the 'actual care, control, and possession' of each child since their birth and that they have been residing in Texas.
Musk and Grimes began dating in 2018, and the Canadian pop star, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher, gave birth to X two years later. Their relationship has been well-publicized, with reports of their breakup surfacing in September 2021. However, in a surprising revelation in March 2022, Grimes announced that she and Musk had quietly welcomed their daughter 'Y' via a surrogate in December 2021. According to author Walter Isaacson's biography on Musk, the couple also welcomed a third child, although this arrival was not widely reported.
Aside from his children with Grimes, Musk is also a father to eight other children. Four of them, twins Griffin and Vivian, and triplet sons Kai, Saxon, and Damian, were born to Musk and his ex-wife, Justine Wilson, via in vitro fertilization (IVF). Tragically, their firstborn son, Nevada, passed away in 2002. In June 2022, Vivian publicly came out as transgender when she filed a request to change her name and adopt her mother's last name, citing her gender identity and desire to sever ties with her biological father.
In addition to these children, Musk welcomed twins in November 2021 with Shivon Zilis, the director of operations and special projects at Neuralink, one of Musk's other ventures.
It is evident that Musk's personal life is filled with complex dynamics and multiple family relationships. Despite the ongoing custody battle with Grimes, it is heartening to see him taking the time to bond with his son during the high-energy atmosphere of the Super Bowl. Only time will tell how the legal proceedings will unfold, but for now, Musk appears to be committed to being an involved parent amidst his numerous professional endeavors.
