Elon Musk has been talking about the idea of an ‘everything app’ for years. The billionaire said last year that his $44 billion purchase of Twitter would be an “accelerant” to that plan which is starting to take shape.
DON’T MISS: Elon Musk Resurrects an Old Tweet to Reveal His Future Plans for Twitter
Ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson said Tuesday that he will be bringing his show to Twitter. In a video that has been viewed more than 90 million times, Carlson lauded the platform’s focus on the protection of free speech.
Bringing Tucker onboard seems to be Musk’s first step in a move to truly transform the platform, though one user -- citing the many major advertisers that refused to run ads on Carlson’s Fox show -- said it could further impact Twitter advertisers.
In response to Carlson’s video, Musk, citing subscription and ad-revenue rewards for creators on the platform, hopes “that many others, particularly from the left, also choose to be content creators on this platform.”
Musk also tweeted at Don Lemon, who was recently fired from CNN, Wednesday morning.
“Have you considered doing your show on this platform? Maybe worth a try,” he wrote. “Audience is much bigger.”
In response to a user who asked when Musk will launch a Twitter dating app, Musk said “interesting idea. Maybe jobs too.”
And in response to another user who said that Musk should make Twitter the “greatest video platform in the universe,” by bringing back Twitter streaming, for starters, Musk said simply “coming.”
At the same time, Musk released an update that encrypts users’ DMs and said that voice and video chat will be coming soon to the platform.
