Ellie Goulding wants fans to celebrate UK music and King Charles ahead of coronation

Ellie Goulding has encouraged music fans to support King Charles and his upcoming coronation celebrations as summer concerts prepare to entertain the masses this year.

The 36-year-old chart topping star is known to be close friends with Princess Eugenie - and was even once linked to Prince Harry - and thinks the upcoming coronation celebration concert will be the perfect excuse for a knees up.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are due to be crowned on 6 May this year - and a concert in their honour will take place on Sunday 7 May.

Love Me Like You Do singer Ellie hopes the concert will help lift spirits after the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II last September.

Ellie told The Sun: “I think the Coronation is a thing to be celebrated. It’s been a difficult year in many ways, and I think a lot of people were surprised by how effected they were by the Queen's passing.

"It’s nice to have something to look forward to. We should be proud of British music, and I’m sure the line-up will be incredible."

Organisers have promised the The Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle in celebration of King Charles III and Queen Camilla "will bring global music icons and contemporary stars together in celebration of the historic occasion".

Last month, Lionel Richie - who has a long-running friendship with King Charles and close working relationship with The Prince's Trust - was the first super star to be confirmed as a guest for the Windsor castle concert.

A music source at the time confirmed the 73-year-old All Night Long singer would be taking part, explaining: “The King respects all of his ambassadors and particularly appreciates Lionel’s unwavering support for his Prince’s Trust.

“They have met on several occasions over the years and shared a bond as they are also both of very similar age.

“Lionel Richie is a great first addition to the concert which is fast looking like it is going to be the hottest ticket of the summer.”

However, organisers have reportedly struggled to secure more big names for the event - with reports suggesting Harry Styles and Adele had turned down the chance to perform for the monarch.

Sir Elton John has reportedly also declined the change to take part in the concert as his own farewell tour and scheduling issues mean he would be unavailable to celebrate the coronation in May.

It is believed similar scheduling and performing clashes are the reason Adel and Harry have been forced to rule themselves out.

Sir Paul McCartney is also tipped to take part in the celebrations (Getty Images)

A royal insider claimed at the beginning of February that Sir Paul McCartney may take part, saying: “Royal organisers are super-keen on landing Paul for this historical once-in-a-lifetime performance.

“The general thought is that having a Beatle singing on King Charles’ big day would seal the deal and other acts can slot in around him.

“Paul is the perfect signing, thanks to his extensive back catalogue and huge global appeal.”

The concert is expected to include orchestral performances of musical favourites fronted by some of the world’s biggest entertainers - as well as performances by a cast of dancers.
