Ellen DeGeneres has reportedly left the US and is “never coming back” following Donald Trump’s election victory.
The former talk show host is said to have become “very disillusioned” and moved to the Cotswolds.
DeGeneres, 66, and wife Arrested Development star Portia de Rossi decided to “get the hell out” following president-elect Trump’s win over Kamala Harris, sources are said to have told TMZ.
The couple, who reportedly purchased the home before this month’s election, are planning on selling their California home in the exclusive neighbourhood of Montecito.
A new report in The Wrap says they have no plans to return from England to America.
An insider close to the ex-Ellen DeGeneres Show host claimed that she and de Rossi, 51, moved in response to Trump’s second non-consecutive term.
They will have plenty of celebrity neighbours in the Cotswolds including David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Patrick Stewart, Elizabeth Hurley, Jeremy Clarkson and Damien Hirst.
After reports of toxic workplace behaviour at her chat show in 2022, DeGeneres opened up about being “kicked out of showbusiness”.
“I decided to take up gardening,” DeGeneres said on a stand-up show she produced with Netflix.
“I got chickens. Let me see what else I can tell you about what’s been going on … Oh yeah, I got kicked out of showbusiness … Yeah, the ‘be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline.”
It is unclear when DeGeneres bought the British property, but she has been spotted at a series of exclusive Cotswolds parties.
This week, she visited former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson’s Farmers Dog pub.
An Instagram video posted by Clarkson’s girlfriend Lisa Hogan showed her partying with de Rossi and singer James Blunt.
In November 2023, she joined Luther actor Idris Elba in a DJ booth at a party at the 17th-century stately home in North Oxfordshire, The Times reported.
DeGeneres had endorsed Democrat candidate Harris for the presidency in August, just weeks after the vice-president replaced Joe Biden to take on Republican Trump.
She said at the time: “There’s nothing more powerful than a woman whose time has come! I can’t wait for [Kamala Harris] to be our next president.”
Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria, Cher, Barbra Streisand, Sharon Stone and Sophie Turner have all said they would considering leaving the US if Trump won, although it is not clear if any of them will actually do so.
DeGeneres was contacted by the Standard for comment.
