Elle Fanning Wears Red Leather and a Leopard-Print Coat to Coach's 85th Anniversary Show

Elle Fanning was among the stars seated front row at Coach's Spring 2027 show in New York on Wednesday, September 9, appearing in a red leather skirt, sheer black blouse and leopard-print coat as the American fashion house celebrated its 85th anniversary.

Styled by Sam McMillen, Fanning paired the red leather pencil skirt with a sheer black blouse, black pumps and a beret. She finished the look with a white, star-covered Coach bag and added the leopard-print coat as an outer layer. The designer of Fanning's individual clothing pieces has not been identified in the current coverage, so no garment designer credit can be confirmed.

The appearance came as Coach presented its Spring 2027 collection at Pier 36 in downtown New York. Fanning attended the show alongside other notable guests, including Troye Sivan and Storm Reid.

Fanning's Coach Show Look

The outfit centered on the contrast between the vivid red leather skirt and the sheer black blouse. The leopard-print coat introduced another prominent pattern, while the black pumps and beret kept the accessories relatively streamlined.

Fanning's white Coach bag was decorated with stars, giving the accessory a direct connection to the celebratory setting. ELLE, which documented Fanning getting ready for the event, identified the bag as a star-covered Coach style but did not specify a particular handbag model.

The actress also chose a beret rather than the cone-shaped birthday hats that appeared on the Coach runway. According to ELLE, models wore the festive hats as part of the presentation, while Fanning incorporated the beret into her own front-row look.

The styling was handled by McMillen, who has worked with Fanning on her red-carpet and fashion-week appearances. For this event, the confirmed styling details show a deliberate combination of leather, sheer fabric, animal print and Coach accessories without establishing a specific designer for the clothing itself.

Coach Celebrates 85 Years

Fanning's appearance coincided with a significant milestone for Coach. The house is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year, and Creative Director Stuart Vevers built the Spring 2027 collection around ideas of memory, nostalgia and familiar Coach codes rather than presenting a conventional retrospective.

Coach said the collection revisited recognizable pieces and materials associated with the brand, including trench coats, leather jackets, tuxedos, bias-cut dresses and Western boots. The runway also incorporated celebratory details that referenced the anniversary, including confetti-covered accessories and a festive finale.

Vevers explained that the anniversary gave the brand an opportunity to reconsider familiar ideas rather than simply reproduce its archive. The resulting collection combined recognizable Coach references with new treatments, including exposed construction, softened materials and expressive leatherwork.

The timing of the show was notable as well. Coach presented on September 9, one day before the official New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027 calendar began on September 10. ELLE identified Coach among the brands showing ahead of the official calendar, making its anniversary presentation one of the early events surrounding this season's New York fashion schedule.

For Fanning, the evening placed her directly within Coach's anniversary celebration while allowing her to put her own spin on the occasion. Her confirmed look combined a bright red leather skirt with a sheer black blouse, leopard-print outerwear, a beret and a star-covered Coach bag, creating a distinctly individual front-row ensemble without requiring an unverified designer attribution.
