When it comes to Bonfire Night, it appears one Scottish town in particular stands head and shoulders above the others if you want to view the fireworks. Elgin in Moray has just been named the best in Scotland with a fireworks 'visibility score' of 70.20 out of 100.
That’s according to the latest study from LotteryCritic.com , which also placed it tenth overall in the UK list, with experts analysing light pollution data to discover the best and worst locations in the UK to view this year's fireworks displays.
The team used t he Bortle scale, which measures light pollution, the SQM (Sky Quality Meter) and the Artificial Brightness scale to work out which cities have the clearest view of the night sky.
Elgin, whose fireworks display takes places at the town's Cooper Park November 5, rated among areas like Truro in Cornwall, Kendal in Cumbria and Eastbourne in East Sussex as the top 10 from around the UK.

Ayr and Perth were also named highly in the 82 city and town UK-wide list, with Glasgow and Aberdeen picked out among the worst for light pollution.
LotteryCritic.com can reveal that the UK location predicted to have the clearest view of this year's fireworks is St. Davids in Pembrokeshire, Wales, with a score of 74.40/100. St. Davids’ Bortle Scale classification of three, along with a low artificial brightness score (42 μcd/m2) guarantees the perfect dark blue skies to watch the show.
In last place is the UK’s capital London with an artificial brightness score of 11,200 μcd/m2 compared to St. Davids with 42 μcd/m2.
