The Department of Highways will open a 16.4-kilometre section of the M82 elevated motorway from Ekachai to Ban Phaeo in Samut Sakhon or a trial period on Aug 28.
The section will open at 10am and operate around the clock, completing the 25km route running from Bang Khun Thian in Bangkok to Ban Phaeo. Motorists can use the entire route free of charge during the trial period.
Four entry and exit points will be available at Phanthai Norasing, Mahachai 1, Mahachai 2 and Ban Phaeo roads.
The department expects the opening to ease congestion on Rama II Road and provide an elevated alternative for drivers travelling between Bangkok and the South.
The Samut Sakhon 1 and 2 interchanges will remain closed while construction continues.
During the trial, speed limits will be 80kph for cars and 65kph for trucks and buses. Toll collection is targeted to begin in 2029.
