MUMBAI: The state election commission has declared polls to 608 gram panchayats in 51 talukas on September 18. These will include polls to gram panchayats and the post of sarpanch. Counting will be held on September 19.
The SC on May 17 had directed local body polls should go ahead in areas where rainfall is low. The 27% OBC quota will apply since quota has been cleared in a ruling last month. So this set of elections will the first major poll to be held after quota was cleared.
