Eldon Square to hold Halloween trick-or-treat hunt that will see shops hand out sweets to youngsters

Newcastle's Eldon Square will entertain families this Halloween with a trick-or-treat hunt that's set to be frighteningly good fun.

Taking place this Saturday, October 29, 'Eldon Scare’s Big Trick-or-Treat' event will give youngsters the chance to explore the shopping centre to find the shops handing out sweets. Families wanting to take part will need to head up to the upper level of Grey’s Quarter, opposite Chatime, between 9am and 4pm, to pick up a map that will guide them on the spooky hunt.

Children will also be handed a Halloween tote bag where they can bag their haul of sweet treats along the way. More than 20 brands ranging from New Look to Lush are taking part and will display the 'Eldon Scare' sticker in their window to show they are providing sweets.

And that's not all, as two friendly witches will be roaming the centre posing for photos with families during the day. Youngsters will also be able to have their faces painted to add the final details to their Halloween costume and take part in spooky colouring-in sessions to raise funds for the North East Autism Society.

The initial hour of the event, from 9am to 10am, will also cater to those with autism, as part of the centre's 'Quiet Hour' initiative that sees lights dimmed and music played at a lower volume.

Naomi Osborne, acting marketing manager for Eldon Square, said: “We are always looking for new and fun ways to engage with all our visitors and transform their shopping trips into an engaging and entertaining experience, and our Halloween event is the perfect example. Expanding our quiet hour to the Halloween event is part of the centre’s aim to make the centre and its events accessible for all community members including the more vulnerable.”
