AN ELDERLY woman was allegedly threatened with a tomahawk, pushed and had her vehicle damaged while a man and teenage boy were on a break-in spree in the Hunter Valley.

Two people allegedly forced entry to several homes at Laguna at about 1pm on Thursday, November 14, before damaging and stealing various items.

At about 3pm that afternoon, a 78-year-old woman returned to her Laguna home and was approached by a man who allegedly threatened her with a tomahawk and pushed her, causing abdominal pain.

The man allegedly caused extensive damage to the woman's vehicle with the tomahawk while she fled to nearby bushland for her safety, police said.

Police were alerted after the man and the teenage boy allegedly rammed a parked vehicle while they drove on Blaxlands Arm Road.

Hunter Valley police stopped the vehicle at Wollombi at about 3.15pm and a search then allegedly revealed a tomahawk and "several items believed to have been stolen".

A 44-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy were arrested at the scene and taken to Cessnock Police Station.

The man was charged with three counts of aggravated break-and-enter dwelling, in company; two counts of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence; common assault; and destroy or damage property.

He was refused bail to appear before Singleton Local Court on Friday.

The teenage boy was charged with three counts of aggravated break-and-enter dwelling, in company.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children's court next month.
