An elderly woman reportedly robbed an Alabama bank — and then immediately turned over the money to the cops.

The woman entered Regions Bank in Gardendale, about 14 miles north of Birmingham, just after 9 a.m. on April 10 and presented bank tellers with a note demanding money, the Gardendale Police Department said.

After receiving the cash, the woman immediately went to the police and “voluntarily” surrendered the money, police said.

Authorities did not identify the woman, her exact age, nor specify how much money she took from the bank.

Police said that there was no ongoing threat to the public. A spokesperson for the bank told WBRC that everyone inside at the time of the robbery was safe and no injuries were reported.

Police believe the woman acted alone.

“The individual’s caregiver has been notified, and the situation is being handled appropriately,” police added.

Charges are pending review as the police investigation continues.

Other details about the woman were not immediately available. The Independent has contacted the Gardendale Police Department for more information.

Regions’ corporate security team is working with the police. According to WBRC, the bank was closed on the day of the incident. FBI Birmingham is assisting in the investigation.
