The Far West Local Health District has reported a woman in her 80s with COVID-19 has become the second death linked to the virus in the region.
In a statement, the Health District said the woman was a close contact of a previously confirmed case.
She was tripled vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.
She passed away at the Broken Hill Base Hospital over the weekend.
The first COVID-related death recorded in Far West New South Wales was an Indigenous man in his 50s, who passed away in September 2021.
The man was a close contact of a previously confirmed case and died at Broken Hill Base Hospital.
He was not vaccinated and had underlying health conditions.
Daily cases
There were eight new cases of COVID-19 reported from PCR tests in Far West New South Wales to 8pm last night.
Five were recorded in Broken Hill, two in Wentworth and one in Balranald Shire.
There were 29 positive rapid antigen (RAT) tests reported for the LHD.
RAT numbers can include cases where people have reported positive RATs on multiple days, and where people have also had a positive PCR test during the same reporting period.
