KOLKATA: The decomposed body of an elderly man was found in an abandoned shop in south Kolkata's Netaji Nagar area, police said on Sunday.
The man, identified as Biplab Kumar Pal, was missing for the last 10 days. His house in Shree Colony is near the abandoned shop, a police officer said.
On Saturday evening, locals noticed a foul odour emanating from the abandoned shop and alerted authorities of Netaji Nagar police station.
Police arrived at the spot and opened the shop, only to find the decomposed body of the septuagenarian, he said, adding the cause of the death is yet to be ascertained and further investigation is underway.
The deceased's family had filed a missing person's report with the local police, and a search was initiated, he said.
