If you want to upgrade your precious weapons in Elden Ring, you’re going to need Smithing Stones. There are two main varieties of Smithing Stones you’ll come across in Elden Ring, and that’s the regular kind, and Somber Smithing Stones, which are assumedly like the other ones but somehow sad.
Smithing Stones are used to upgrade all manner of equipment, while the Somber counterparts are used to upgrade special equipment, such as weapons earned from boss encounters. Each has multiple class levels, dictated by a number on the end of the name such as “Somber Smithing Stone [3]”.
