Elden Ring’s latest patch has finally dropped, and it’s a fairly big one, especially for the PVP community. FromSoftware has finally heard your prayers, and massive balance changes are coming to PVP in particular, proving that the community is still important to FromSoftware.
On top of PVP changes, there are some great buffs coming to spells and skills, while Colossal Weapons are getting some key changes, and the poise system is being altered in a number of ways. In order to prepare your PVP and PVE battles appropriately, read below for a full breakdown of everything you need to know about Elden Ring patch 1.07.
PVP: Separate damage scaling
The biggest announcement is sure to please fans of PVP. Elden Ring’s PVP balance has been frustrating the PVP community for a long time, and now FromSoftware has finally decided to offer different game balance depending on whether you’re fighting an NPC enemy or a real player.
To start, stamina attack power has been increased when attacking a PVP player that is blocking, normal attacks have increase poise damage, and you’ll find Ashes of War have almost universally been nerfed, with lower attack power across the board. A bunch of incantations have been hit too, particularly the Dragon incantations, such as Dragonfire and Agheel’s Flame.
Spells: Decreased FP cost
Many, many spells have seen decreased FP cost, which is great news for you spellcasters. Spells that aren’t seeing reduced FP cost just might have increased attack power, such as the Glintstone Pebble. If magic has you curious, then it seems like a better way to play Elden Ring than ever before.
Skills: Increased power or motion speed
Many skills have seen increased attack power, motion speed, or both. Stormcaller, Blood Tax, and Piercing Fang are all skills which have seen both attack power and motion speed buffed, with many other skills seeing the same or other buffs, such as being able to use the attack faster after using an item, or increased poise damage. This should make skills across the board more attractive than Ashes of War, especially in PVP.
Armor: poise increased
PVP play may have seen increased poise damage inflicted by normal attacks, and many skills are also dealing more poise damage than ever before, but almost all armor pieces have seen an increase to the amount of poise they offer, meaning it balances out just a little bit. Still, you should fear too many normal attacks or skills in PVP, while in PVE you should abuse skills to get staggers early.
Colossal Weapons: attack/recovery speed buff
This isn’t the first time Colossal Swords and Weapons have had their base moveset buffed, but this should make the set more competitive and fearsome than ever before. The speed of many attacks has been increased, and the poise damage is higher than ever when using two-handed attacks – that last point actually applies to all melee weapons.
Hammers and Great Hammers also get a poise damage buff, along with Colossal Weapons. But it’s not all good – that fearsome crouched poke and the powerful rolling attack have both been nerfed in terms of speed and hit detection. No more spamming those in PVP duels!
