One of the biggest differences between Elden Ring and its Dark Souls predecessors is that when you kill a major boss and receive their Remembrance (essentially a boss soul from Dark Souls), you have an opportunity to duplicate it. This allows you to obtain both of the available rewards from the Remembrance instead of just one of them. Alternatively, you can also use the extra Remembrance to obtain the same reward twice, which is very useful for players that want to power stance (dual wield) a specific boss weapon for maximum DPS.
However, much like everything else in the game, Elden Ring doesn't make it clear where or how you can duplicate Remembrance. Thankfully, you don't need to worry, as we're here to help with a detailed guide on everything you need to know about duplicating Remembrance in Elden Ring and its upcoming DLC expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree.
How to duplicate Remembrance in Elden Ring
Duplicating Remembrance in Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree is simple, though it's not something you can do infinitely. The first step of the process is to locate Walking Mausoleums, which look like massive "land turtles" that sometimes have bells underneath them. Several of these creatures can be found all over Elden Ring's map, but the first one players are likely to encounter is the one located in the western part of the Weeping Peninsula region in the large open field there. This location is shown in the map above.
Once you find a Walking Mausoleum, you need to get on your mount and use your weapon to break off the white spots all over the creature's legs. Make sure you steer clear of its feet when it stomps around or jumps and then slams into the ground, as you'll die if you get stepped on or crushed. After you "clean" the creature's legs, it will lower itself to the ground and a staircase to a door on its back will be revealed.
Open the door and go inside of the Walking Mausoleum. Inside is a small room with a sarcophagus in the center that contains a corpse. Interact with the corpse to choose which Remembrance you'd like to duplicate. Once you've duplicated it, you can take it to the Finger Reader NPC in Roundtable Hold to select your boss item.
Note that once you duplicate a Remembrance, you'll need to find another Walking Mausoleum for each additional duplication. There are only a finite number of Walking Mausoleums in the Lands Between, so duplicate your Remembrance wisely.
Elden Ring is finally here, and it's available for $60 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC. It's one of the best Xbox games you can play right now if you're a fan of challenging RPGs, and we strongly recommend it (check out our review of Elden Ring to see why we do). Plus, you can continue the challenging adventure with the new Shadow of the Erdtree expansion which has a $39.99 MSRP.
