FromSoftware games have always included character creators, with the one in Elden Ring being the best yet. In addition to choosing a masculine or feminine body type, you can tweak and fine-tune practically every detail about your character's appearance, from your eyebrows and hairstyle to the width of your nose. With that said, you might want to get a move on and start the game already, especially if this is your first playthrough.
Fortunately, your appearance in Elden Ring is not locked and sealed the moment you finalize your character before starting the game. If you want to change things later on, don't fret, here's what you need to know.
Elden Ring: How to change your character's appearance
Elden Ring actually allows you to change every single thing about how your character looks, a feature welcome in modern Xbox RPGs. Nothing is locked, so you're not restricted to merely changing up your hairstyle, or simply swapping your gender like in Dark Souls 2. With that said, you will have to progress a short ways into the game to alter your looks again. There are two ways of doing it, one of which is far easier than the first.
Get to the Roundtable
You'll have to progress through the game until you talk to Melina, unlocking your horse, Torrent.
- After unlocking the ability to level up and talking to Melina for the first time, keep progressing through Stormveil castle.
- Eventually, you'll come upon a Site of Grace just before fighting Margit, the Fell Omen.
- Melina will speak to you and invite you to the Roundtable, also known as the Table of Lost Grace.
- When you arrive at the Roundtable, make your way through the rooms until you come upon a Dressing Table.
- It's in the same room as Fia, the deathbed companion who will offer to hold you.
- Whenever you want to change your appearance, simply use the Dressing Table.
If you ever play with the various sliders too much and things get out of control, don't panic, as you have the option of simply exiting and discarding any changes you've made so far. Elden Ring's character creator is extremely in-depth, meaning it's possible to get a great look, but if you aren't careful, you can easily end up with something that looks like it belongs in a 1950s B-movie.
Rennala, Queen of Raya Lucaria Academy
You can also alter your appearance once you've beaten Rennala, Queen of Raya Lucaria Academy. Like at the Roundtable, this is completely free, and you can make changes whenever you want.
Do also note that while you can change your character's appearance, you cannot change your starting origin, which determined your stats, equipment, and magic at the beginning of the game. You'll want to carefully choose from Elden Ring's classes when you're beginning the game, as this isn't something that can be taken back.
Later on, you will be able to respec your character after beating Rennala, meaning you'll get all your level-ups back, free to distribute however you please. This isn't cheap or easy to do, however, so think for a moment before you distribute any runes to boost your character's power.
