Temporary Protected Status for El Salvador was supposed to run out at midnight Wednesday. Instead, the Department of Homeland Security spent the day telling reporters the opposite: nothing has ended yet. Immigration lawyers spent the same day telling their clients something closer to the truth on the ground — that the paperwork letting them work legally had already run out, statement or no statement.
