Emma Coronel Aispuro, wife of notorious drug lord Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, is making headlines as she prepares to walk the runway as the primary model in April Black Diamond's new collection at Milan Fashion Week. The announcement was made via social media and with a New York City Times Square promotional billboard.

According to the invite for the fashion show, Coronel will debut as an international model on September 22 at Palazzo Serbolloni, Napoleon's residence in Italy.

April Black Diamond, the designer behind the collection, provided a statement explaining her choice:

"In a world where fashion often celebrates outer beauty, we are committed to showcasing a deeper, more powerful narrative. Our upcoming fashion show will not focus solely on the dresses, but on the stories that bring them to life. As a designer, I believe everyone deserves a second chance, and fashion is the perfect platform to highlight transformation, strength, and resilience.

That's why I made the bold decision to hire an extraordinary woman as my main model, a woman who, despite a past marked by controversy, has chosen to rewrite her future. She is not just a model for our dresses, she is an example of strength, courage, and hope. Her journey from a troubled past to a promising future embodies the message I want to convey with this collection: it is never too late to change your life, and every woman deserves the chance to walk with pride and confidence, no matter where she comes from.

In this global presentation, Emma will take to the runway, representing not only my designs but also a movement toward redemption and empowerment. Together, we aim to inspire others to embrace second chances, break free from the chains of their past, and own their power with pride. This collaboration is not just about fashion; it's about forging a new path and proving that every woman has the strength to redefine her story.

Join us as we celebrate resilience, rebirth, and the beauty of transformation on this global stage. This show will be a testament to the belief that what truly makes a woman stand out is not just the dress she wears, but the strength she carries within."

Coronel, and El Chapo's lawyer, Mariel Colón, will also be part of the fashion show.

This move aligns with Black Diamond's brand, which was launched by Rafael Portillo's wife, an investor in the Mexican theater production 'Aventurera.' The brand is seeking international recognition, while Coronel continues to redefine her public image and distance herself from her past.

After her release from prison in September 2023, she has shown a determination to "clean her name" while pursuing her dreams.

Emma Coronel's Journey into Modeling

This isn't the first time Coronel has tried her hand atmodeling. She just recently appeared in Mariel Colón, her attorney,'s music video for the song "La Señora."

Coronel's decision to enter the entertainment industry has sparked mixed reactions, ranging from support from her followers to criticism from those who associate her with the drug trade. However, she seems determined to continue with this new chapter in her life, demonstrating that she is more than just the wife of a drug lord. Additionally, this career move aligns with one of the conditions of her parole: finding a way to earn a living.

El Chapo's wife was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for her involvement in drug trafficking and money laundering activities linked to the Sinaloa cartel. Her charges stemmed from her aiding and abetting her husband's criminal empire, including helping him escape from a maximum-security prison in 2015.

How can Emma Coronel travel while on parole?

Upon her release in September 2023, Coronel was placed on four-year parole. This includes regular check-ins with authorities and restrictions on certain activities. Despite these limitations, Coronel has been allowed to pursue her modeling career and travel abroad under specific conditions.

According to U.S. laws, individuals under supervised release can request special permissions for travel, especially for work-related reasons. To gain approval, they must present documentation proving the purpose of the trip and assurances that they have no intention of fleeing the United States.

Should she violate any conditions of her supervised release, Coronel risks being sent back to prison with a potentially longer sentence.
