Welcome to Frankie Luvu Gets His Flowers Week!
A day after receiving NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors, the sixth-year linebacker got himself some praise from his defensive coordinator. Ejiro Evero, after Thursday’s practice, was asked about Luvu’s standout season.
“He does a lot. He does it all,” he said. “We’re asking him to be a linebacker, off-the-ball linebacker, we’ve asked him to be an edge rusher, we’ve asked him to be a part of our pressure package. He wears so many hats, now he’s got the green dot. And I can’t say enough good things about this player.
“He epitomizes everything you want in a football player. He’s tough, he’s smart, he plays with great effort, he plays with great physicality, he’s a great teammate. And he’s had a number of games this year where you can say, ‘Wow.’ And it’s great to see him get rewarded for it.”
What got him that reward was the best outing of his 2023 campaign. Luvu led a stout defensive performance in the 15-13 win over the Houston Texans this past Sunday, recording 12 tackles, a sack and two passes defensed.
So, yeah, he’s not an easy man to contain.
“Yes, he’s very difficult to block—for linemen and running backs, obviously,” Evero later replied when asked if Luvu is hard to block. “I do like to think the scheme helps him, but what I know is he’s a heck of a player. He really enhances our scheme, too.”
