How close is Shaquill Griffin to suiting up for the Carolina Panthers? Well, based on what defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero said this afternoon, he may not be too far off.
Evero was asked about the status of his newest cornerback following Thursday’s practice.
“He’s doin’ a great job, he had an interception in practice today,” he replied with a smile. “Shaquill, he’s comin’ along. Really smart young man, learnin’ the defense really fast and he’s definitely gonna be a part of the plans as we work down the stretch.”
The Panthers, who have been dealing with depth issues at the position all season, added the former Pro Bowl defender for this stretch last week. Griffin, after being waived by the Houston Texans on Dec. 6, was claimed by Carolina the next day.
A former third-round pick, Griffin has played seven NFL seasons. Over that time—which included stints with the Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars and Texans—the six-foot, 198-pounder recorded 360 combined tackles, seven interceptions and a sack.
