Eilish McColgan 10,000 metre British record picked up at this month's Great Scottish Run has been wiped, after the course was found to be 150 metres short.
McColgan posted an impressive 30 minutes 18 seconds, which also broke her own European record. However, the Scottish star has had her records scrapped after race organisers said the track had been laid out too short due to human error. in a statement, Paul Foster of the Great Run company, said: "We have been in touch with Eilish to explain and to apologise.
"We will be reviewing our internal processes to ensure we cannot make this mistake again. There are no excuses for this happening and we're very sorry. We know we've let our customers down."
This is not the first time The Great Scottish Run has made such an error. Back in 2016 the half-marathon course was also found to be 150m short in length.
This once again cost an athlete a record, as Scotsman Callum Hawkins had his 60 minutes 22 seconds record chalked off following the track insufficiencies. In 2022 Hawkins won the event, posting a time of 63 minutes and 35 seconds ahead of 1:03:35 ahead of Adam Craig and his brother Derek.
After her now invalid run earlier this month, McColgan described the race as 'the perfect way to cap off 2022'. Post-race she tweeted: "LOVED being back in Scotland this weekend. It was the perfect way to cap off an incredible 2022!
"Caught up with family and old friends who I haven't had the chance to see in years! A quick trip, but the best one yet." Earlier this summer the Scottish star was crowned Commonwealth Games champion across the same distance, and has since been nominated for The Sunday Times Sportswoman of The Year award.
