Strabane attack: PSNI make eighth arrest in attempted murder investigation

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of two police officers in Strabane last month.

The man is the eighth person to be arrested as part of the investigation into the incident, in which police believe an improvised explosive device was thrown at a police car in the Co Tyrone town.

The man, who was arrested in Strabane on Tuesday, was taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning after a property was searched and a number of items seized.

Police have said that a strong line of inquiry is that the New IRA was responsible for the attack.

A police spokesperson confirmed the arrest on Tuesday and reiterated their appeal for anyone with information on the incident to come forward.

"Detectives from the Terrorism Investigation Unit investigating the attempted murder of two police officers in Strabane on Thursday, 17th November, have today, Tuesday, 13th December, arrested a 28-year-old man in Strabane under the Terrorism Act," the PSNI spokesperson said.

"He has been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning. A property in Strabane was also searched and a number of items were seized.

"The attempted murder investigation continues, and police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them on 101."
