Eight ways DWP look for evidence of benefit fraud including speaking to people you know

The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) is undertaking a huge crackdown on benefit fraud in a plan to save an estimated £4bn over the next five years.

DWP opened almost 19,000 investigations into alleged benefit fraud up to the end of March 2023. More than 20 million people across the UK claim some form of benefit from the DWP, including Universal Credit and the State Pension.

Each investigation took around a year, on average, to complete in 2022/23, Chronicle Live reports.
