Eight people were taken to hospital after a fire at a care home that shut a busy road for hours as firefighters brought the flames under control, the emergency services have confirmed.
The blaze happened at the Canterbury House care home on Dyserth Road, Rhyl, shortly after 3pm on Saturday. There was a a "heavy police and ambulance presence" on the busy road. On Sunday, the ambulance service said that a total of eight people were injured in the blaze and taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd for treatment.
The cause of the fire was accidental and an investigation will be carried out into the damage to the building. An air ambulance was also dispatched to the scene but it returned to its base in Dinas Dinlle shortly afterwards.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called yesterday at around 15:10to reports of a fire at a care home on Dyserth Road, Rhyl. We sent a number of resources to the scene and 8 patients were conveyed to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.’
A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call to a building fire on Dyserth Road in Rhyl at 3:07pm yesterday. Two fire engines, from Rhyl and Abergele, were sent to the scene.
"The fire was accidental and will be investigated further. Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service assisted at the scene and two casualties were reported. A stop was called at 5:42pm."
