Eight England football fans have been arrested in Munich ahead of tonight's Nations League game against Germany.
Around 4,000 of the national team's fans are in Munich for the clash between old rivals, which could see right-back Kieran Trippier become the first Newcastle United player to start for the Three Lions since Andros Townsend played a pre-Euro 2016 friendly against Australia.
The arrests on Monday occurred despite England supporters insisting that they were determined to repair their damaged reputation, particularly those following the scenes at the Euro 2020 final at Wembley last July. Three fans were arrested for making Nazi salutes, while local police said another fan caused an estimated €2,000 (£1,700) of damage to his hotel room after letting off a flare.

Four others were arrested for incidents such as insulting police officers and urinating in the street. England supporters have been allocated around 3,500 tickets for the away end at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena, with fears of further clashes during the game after some England fans bought tickets in the home end of the stadium.
Many of the troublemakers were ordered to pay a security deposit of around €200 (£170) - the local equivalent of an on-the-spot fine - while two who were unable to pay appeared before a district judge. Some of Munich's bars closed early on Monday after becoming overwhelmed by customers as large groups of fans in England shirts and carrying flags sang in the German sunshine.
Other pubs remained closed all of Tuesday after reports of incidents getting out of hand among supporters. Police were called to one 'brawl' on Monday, with reports that 30 - 50 England fans had been involved, but said it had dispersed before armed officers arrived at the scene.
A Munich police spokesperson told the PA news agency that they would only be able to stop England fans going into the home end tonight if there was an expectation that they may cause trouble. 700 police officers have been deployed to deal with the influx of England fans to the city since Saturday, considerably more than would be working for a Bayern Munich match.
It comes after a plea from manager Gareth Southgate for fans to behave.
Tonight's UEFA Nations League match is England's second in four days - after losing their opening game to Hungary by one goal to nil in Budapest on Saturday. The 2022/23 Nations League final will take place in June next year.
