Egypt squad World Cup 2026: Hossam Hassan's final selection for the tournament

Egypt World Cup 2026 squad: Mohamed Salah and Hossam Hassan stand together smiling and waving.

The Egypt World Cup 2026 squad has been revealed, with the 26-man squad hoping to take their nation out of the groups this summer.

Premier League legend Mohamed Salah and current Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush lead the way, with the Pharaohs fresh off of an Africa Cup of Nations semi-final run heading into the World Cup 2026.

They're used to being one of the fancied teams in African competition, with the most Africa Cup of Nation trophies in history, but at the World Cup they're not going to be among the favourites.

Egypt had a more competitive build-up to the summer tournament than most, with a predominantly domestic squad being eliminated in the Arab Cup group stage in December and their Africa Cup of Nations campaign ending in semi-final defeat to Senegal.

Egypt qualified in impressive fashion for the World Cup and Salah, ranked at no.1 FourFourTwo's list of the best African footballers ever, was instrumental — now the top goal-scorer of all time in CAF World Cup qualifiers with 20 strikes, nine of which came in qualification for the 2026 tournament.

Salah, now a free agent after playing his final game for Liverpool in late May, missed the March international matches through injury, with former Aston Villa winger Trezeguet leading Hassan's team in his absence.

More than half of the squad to face Saudi Arabia and Spain play for clubs in Egypt, most notably Cairo giants Al Ahly, where 31-year-old Trezeguet now plies his trade.

Group G standings

Egypt are in Group G at World Cup 2026.

Manager

Who is Egypt's manager?

Hossam Hassan is Egypt's national team coach and is currently their all-time top scorer, although, Mohamed Salah may have something to say about that in the next 12 months.

He has had a remarkable post-playing career containing no fewer than 17 separate managerial stints, including five with Al Masry.

Before being appointed as Egypt's national team manager, he was nominally in charge of Modern Future, where he never managed a game before being released to lead the national team.

Star player

Mohamed Salah needs no introduction. He is ranked at no.1 in FourFourTwo's list of the best African footballers ever, no.81 in FourFourTwo's list of the greatest players of all time and no.5 in FourFourTwo's list of the greatest Premier League players of all time.

He left Liverpool having bagged 380 goal involvements in 442 games, and he is the third fastest player to reach 100 goal involvements at international level in history.

If Egypt have any chance of success at the World Cup 2026, Salah will be the reason for it.
