Eggs thrown at King Charles III, Kingpin jailed and McDonald's branch shut

'Major incident' as protestor throws eggs at King Charles III

A protestor was detained by police after appearing to throw eggs at the King and Queen Consort.

King Charles III and his Queen Consort, Camilla, were doing a walkabout in York when a man appeared to throw eggs. The detainee was said to have tried to throw eggs at the royals before screaming at them.

Royal editor for the Daily Mail, Rebecca English, posted a clip of the incident on Twitter. It appeared to show police tackle the man to the ground as he continued to shout.

She said: "Major incident here in York as a lone protestor tries to throw an egg at the king screaming that the country was built on the blood of slavery. He is bundled to the ground. People screaming ‘shame on you’ at him and ‘god save the king’."

Kingpin jailed over £4billion drug plot fails in bid for cushier prison conditions

The kingpin at the head of a huge international drug trafficking conspiracy failed in his bid to serve his time in cushier conditions.

Mehmet Baybasin was at the top of an enormous drugs trafficking gang based in Liverpool and London responsible for smuggling huge quantities of Cocaine drugs from South America to the UK. Baybasin has spent years trying to fight his designation as a Category A prisoner, meaning he has been deemed a threat to the public or national security should he escape.

Baybasin made an application to the High Court to ask for a judicial review into the decision of prison authorities to refuse an oral hearing about his categorisation in December last year.

Liverpool McDonald's branch shuts as fast food giant gives reopening date

A popular McDonald's branch has temporarily closed its doors.

The McDonald's restaurant on the Switch Island leisure park is temporarily closed while the fast food giant carries out refurbishment works. A sign outside the restaurant on Dunnings Bridge Road, Bootle informs customers that the restaurant will be "closed for now".

The restaurant, which is opened 24-hours a day, is directing customers to other city restaurants while its doors remain closed. A spokesperson for the global chain told the ECHO : "The restaurant is currently being refurbished".
