Some supermarkets have brought in limits on the number of egg boxes shoppers can buy amid supply issues.
Asda, Lidl and Tesco are among the retailers that have introduced limits to ensure customers can get a steady supply of eggs. It comes as avian flu has caused farmers to reduce their flocks but other farmers have claimed they are getting rid of flocks as they are no longer financially viable.
Farmers have claimed that despite the price of a dozen eggs rising by about 45p in the supermarkets since March, they've only received between 5p to 10p of that increase and are not being paid a fair price, reports Birmingham Live. Here is a round-up of what the main supermarkets are currently saying in relation to rationing.

Lidl
Lidl has announced that each customer is only allowed to buy three boxes of eggs. Shoppers have complained on social media of empty shelves in stores where it appears that limits have not been imposed. One Facebook user said: "Come on Lidl. Sort it out. You expect to be able to buy staples like eggs in the middle of the day. No pasta either. Poor."
Aldi
Aldi has yet to say anything about the egg shortage but BirminghamLive has contacted them to see if they plan to bring in restrictions. Shoppers have been complaining that they have struggled to find eggs. One Facebook user posted: "No eggs in Aldi! How weird is that?" One said: "I went on Monday and they didn't have any then."
Tesco
Tesco has been forced to put limits on eggs. Last week, Tesco said it had good availability with no buying limits but was working with producers to protect supplies. Now it has limited customers to buying only three boxes of eggs.
Waitrose
Waitrose has confirmed it is currently not suffering any egg supply limits and will continue to monitor the situation.
Marks and Spencer
BirminghamLive has contacted M&S to find out how it is approaching the egg shortage.
Morrisons
Morrisons has confirmed that it is not rationing eggs in stores and it is not experiencing any major supply issues.
Sainsbury's
Sainsbury's has not yet brought in a limit on egg boxes but has put up notices warning of supply issues. People on social media have shared images of empty shelves with the signs on them. One wrote: "What’s up with the price/lack of eggs? #EggShortage"
Asda
Asda has brought in a two packs per customer limit across all of its more than 600 stores. Notices posted on shelves in stores say the limit is due to low availability and encourage shoppers to make sure there is "enough to go around".
