Manchester United’s chances of signing Erik ten Hag favourite Jurrien Timber have faded completely after the Ajax defender signed a new contract with the club.
Timber was one of the players Ten Hag highlighted to the United hierarchy upon his arrival at the start of the summer. The 21-year-old centre-back is highly rated and, like Lisandro Martinez and Antony, had been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Reports in June suggested Timber would stay put, because he deemed a move to United to be too risky at this early stage of his career, and they have now proven accurate. Timber was originally under contract with Ajax until June 2024, but has now penned a one-year extension to further cement his status at the club.
