Arsenal Invincible Robert Pires has urged his old side to try and sign Brighton star Moises Caicedo during the summer transfer window.
The north Londoners tried to sign Caicedo back in January, seeing two bids rejected by the Seagulls, who made it clear they were unwilling to sell their star midfielder. Since then, the Ecuadorian international signed a new long-term contract at the Amex Stadium but that was seemingly just to protect his value considering Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has admitted that the 21-year-old is likely to leave this summer.
"For sure we will lose some players [this summer], maybe [Moises] Caicedo and [Alexis] Mac Allister," De Zerbi said last month. "We have to be ready to bring in more good players and for the others; [Kaoru] Mitoma, [Pervis] Estupinan, I think for them the best solution is to stay with us."
Now, Gunners icon Pires has urged owner Stan Kroenke and Co to fund a move for Caicedo, who he has claimed has all the tools to succeed under Mikel Arteta's stewardship. “I hope he signs for Arsenal," the Frenchman told Ecuadorian outlet El Canal del Fútbol when asked about the 21-year-old holding midfielder.
"Mikel Arteta wants him, he’s got all the tools needed to succeed at Arsenal. The club are willing to pay big money for him, and that’s testament to his ability.”
Arsenal's primary target for the summer window is West Ham United captain Declan Rice, football.london understands. But according to The Times, the north London outfit want to recruit Caicedo as well.
