Edu makes 'contact' with Lucas Paqueta agent over Arsenal transfer with proposal yet to be made

Arsenal sporting director Edu has made contact with the agent of Lyon midfielder Lucas Paqueta over a move but is yet to make a formal offer, according to reports. The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates this summer as the Gunners continue their summer build.

The transfer window has been a busy one so far for Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard has already made four signings, spending over £80million in improving the quality and depth of his squad heading into the next campaign.

That could soon increase to five additions as Arsenal agreed a £30million fee for Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City. The 25-year-old is said to have signed a four-year deal with the side ahead of the move.

Further signings could be on the cards though, with plenty of other names linked with a switch to north London. The midfield is an area that has plenty of transfer options, with the likes of Youri Tielemans and Paqueta rumoured with a move.

The latter has been subject of contact from Edu, according to Fabrizio Romano when talking to Give Me Sport. Discussing a potential move, he said: "At the moment there is nothing close for Arsenal [for Paqueta].

"There is an interest because Edu, of course, with his Brazilian link knows the player so well and had some contact with his agent but never submitted a proposal.” With Zinchenko seemingly the priority, the next move could see the Lyon midfielder make the switch if the terms are right.
