Edu has one last chance to sign Arsenal's bargain short-term midfield solution for Mikel Arteta

Edu has one more shot at solving Arsenal’s midfield issues after the January transfer window, and into the final stretch of the Premier League campaign.

According to TeamTalk, Steve Bruce wants to bring former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to West Brom, where he has recently taken over as Baggies manager.

The Gunners had been letting Wilshere train at London Colney with the first-team squad and the midfielder himself made it clear that he would like to re-join the club after leaving at the same time as Arsene Wenger in 2018.

Mikel Arteta had been chasing a midfielder in January but due to the club's failure in securing a new addition, Wilshere could be an alternative option to strengthen a struggling department.

Alongside the lack of quality in midfield, there is also a huge shortage in the middle of the park and the club is one Thomas Partey or Granit Xhaka injury away from seeing a major loss of experience in the side.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang moving to Barcelona, it now means that Partey and Xhaka are two of the most experienced players and their presence is crucial.

However, due to suspensions and injury issues, the pair have missed big chunks of the season and a lot of reliability has been placed on the shoulders of Albert Sambi Lokonga to own Arsenal’s midfield.

While the youngster is certainly equipped with bags of potential, he still needs time to mature and as a result, has struggled in matches this season.

Now 30-years-old, Wilshere would certainly be able to inject some experience into the squad. Even if he is not a regular starter, his dressing room character could still prove to be crucial.

Wilshere said on talkSPORT that he “would love” to play for Arsenal again, but he admitted that he is “not in control of that.”

It is in the hands of Arteta to decide whether he will let Wilshere join West Brom, and prevent the Gunners from having some extra midfield security going into a crucial part of the season.

There are certainly doubts over Wilshere's injury record and whether or not he still possesses the same ability as he used to, but putting the midfielder on a pay-to-play contract would not do the club any harm.
