Edu given Gabriel Jesus transfer alternatives amid Arsenal's Dusan Vlahovic and Cody Gakpo links

Arsenal have been urged to consider Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha, Newcastle's Allan Saint-Maximin and Chelsea's Christian Pulisic as possible Gabriel Jesus replacements. The Gunners are understood to be looking at possible short-term fixes in attack after the Brazilian was confirmed to be out of action for a while.

Jesus sustained an unfortunate knee injury at the Qatar World Cup with Brazil in the group stage defeat to Cameroon. Upon arriving back in England, the 25-year-old underwent surgery and is due to be sidelined for a number of months.

The blow to Mikel Arteta's frontline could play a valuable role in the business conducted in the January transfer window as the Gunners aim to add reinforcements to the current crop of players. Prior to Jesus' injury, it was understood that a central midfielder and winger would be the priority but that could be forced to change.

Cody Gakpo has been strongly tipped to make the switch from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, as well as Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic and Atletico Madrid want-away forward Joao Felix. However, ex-Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has told his former side to consider three Premier League players to replace Jesus.

Speaking to Football Betting, the Frenchman said: "I'm so sad for Gabriel Jesus, honestly. He's been doing a great job for Arsenal. I love watching him smile on the pitch and he has fit perfectly with Arteta and Arsenal.

"They need reinforcements in the transfer market. There was talk about Goncalo Ramos and although he scored a hat-trick against Switzerland, I think it's too early.

"He didn't have any impact against Morocco. No headers, no runs, no hold up. He disappeared on the pitch yesterday and I think he's a good player, he's doing a good job at Benfica but he's not my first option.

"Zaha from Palace, Saint-Maximin from Newcastle or Pulisic from Chelsea would be my three they should target. Pulisic will fit perfectly with what Arteta wants, he loves playing one-touch football with good movement and he lives in London so it will be an easy switch."
