Edu delivers verdict on Arsenal youngster following Brazil decision amid loan option

Arsenal sporting director Edu has admitted his support for Marquinhos after the youngster was called up to Brazil's squad for the Under-20s World Cup.

Writing on Instagram, the Gunner transfer chief said: "We are very proud @_marquinhos011 !!! (clapping emoji)." Marquinhos joined the north London outfit last summer, signing from Sao Paulo on a four-year contract with an option for a further year for a fee believed to be in the region of £3million, football.london understands.

The 20-year-old scored and assisted on his senior debut against FC Zurich in the UEFA Europa League but found game time hard to come by before eventually joining Championship side Norwich City on loan during the January transfer window. The young winger has since played 11 matches for the Canaries, registering one goal and providing one assist.

"He is a very happy boy, he always has a smile on his face," Norwich boss David Wagner said when speaking about Marquinhos last month. "He's settled into the group here very well.

"You can feel it, you can see it. Especially in the last weeks, he’s shown a lot of energy as well. You can see that his curve is going upwards, for sure.

"He had a good performance against Sheffield United. Our right side with him and Max [Aarons] looked absolutely competitive.

"That performance has shown this, and hopefully he can continue on Friday and in the next games as well."
