Edu can sign 'world-class talent' by completing Pedro Neto £50m Arsenal deadline day transfer

Arsenal can sign a "world-class talent" in Pedro Neto from Wolves this summer, but would need to pay a significant fee to secure his services.

Reports last week suggested the Gunners are 'prioritising' a move for Neto before the summer transfer window shuts. Wolves' reluctance to sell and a valuation of £50million may deter technical director Edu from looking to strike a deal, though, with Cody Gakpo a potential alternative to the Portuguese talent.

Mikel Arteta remains keen to sign a new forward option before the transfer window closes after Nicolas Pepe departed the club on-loan to join Ligue 1 side OGC Nice for the 2022/23 season. Neto fits Arsenal's ideal profile due to the fact he has Premier League experience and is a talented youngster with a high ceiling to develop.

The Wolves winger featured in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle on Sunday and had an assist for Raul Jimenez's goal ruled out after a VAR review. Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp labelled Neto as a 'world-class talent' during coverage of the Wolves draw and believes manager Bruno Lage must do everything he can to keep him at Molineux.

Redknapp said: "I would (fight hard to keep him). He is one of my favourites players, this guy [Neto]. 22 years of age, he is a world-class talent."

There were some suggestions that the Gunners could not afford a deal for the talented winger, with The Athletic questioning whether or not the north London club can afford another big-money transfer given their FFP concerns. Given Arsenal's interest in securing a deal for Raphinha earlier this summer, it indicates that technical director Edu still has the money to spend if the club identifies a deal that represents good value for money.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have started the season flanking summer signing Gabriel Jesus in attack as Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira get back up to full fitness. Arteta will be hoping he can add a new attacker to his squad to increase competition for places and help fire the Gunners to a top four spot after their perfect start to the season.
