Arsenal need to strengthen their midfield department before the opening Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace on August 5. Despite the arrival of Fabio Vieira, Mikel Arteta’s side still require a player in the middle of the park who can play in a deeper position.
It seemed as though Youri Tielemans would be incoming to fill this void, but a deal has stalled since the opening of the transfer window. The Gunners need to look elsewhere in the search for alternatives.
Edu has been given an excellent opportunity to enhance Arteta’s midfield by exploring Paris Saint-Germain’s new transfer list. There are two players available that would certainly be worthwhile signings for Arsenal.

According to French news outlet Le Parisian there are 11 players that PSG are looking to offload this summer. Among the list of players who are reportedly available is Leandro Paredes and Georginio Wijnaldum, who would be solid signings for the Gunners.
Arsenal have reportedly previously taken interest in a deal for Paredes as according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the Gunners will face competition from Inter Milan for his signature. He could reportedly be available for as little as £8.3m, which would be an excellent opportunity to strengthen the depth at Arsenal.
The midfielder has proved on an international and club stage that he would certainly improve Mikel Arteta’s midfield. He has won honours with PSG and won the Copa America with Argentina in the summer, where he played a major part.
Paredes has played 113 times for PSG and played for his country on 44 occasions. His experience would prove valuable to Arteta’s young side who still have a lot of growing to do.
Wijnaldum would also be another good option for Arsenal. He won the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League during his five-year spell at Liverpool, which shows he would inject the important experience that is needed in Arteta’s lineup.
He is into his thirties now, so a deal will not be too expensive to complete, meaning he is much more desirable compared to the other transfer targets the Gunners have been linked with. Sergei Milenkovic-Savic and Lucas Paqueta have been quoted to cost upwards of £50m meaning Arsenal will be cutting down on their spending if they sign Wijnaldum.
While both Paredes and Wijnaldum would not be groundbreaking signings for the Gunners, they would still be important additions to the squad. They are potential deals that Edu should look to explore.
