Edouard Mendy, N'Golo Kante: Chelsea injury news and returns dates ahead of FC Salzburg clash

Graham Potter will take charge of his first Chelsea game when the Blues welcome Red Bull Salzburg to Stamford Bridge. The new Chelsea boss has had to wait slightly longer than expected for his Blues managerial debut after their game against Fulham at Craven Cottage was postponed on Saturday.

Potter's first task is a Champions League fixture against the Austrian side, as Chelsea look to bounce back from their disappointing 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb last week - which ultimately proved to be Thomas Tuchel's final game in charge of the club. With Sunday's game against Liverpool postponed, Potter is likely to play his strongest team against Salzburg, but does have a couple of absentees.

With that in mind, football.london brings you all the latest injury news and return dates that Potter has to consider.

Edouard Mendy

The Chelsea goalkeeper was only deemed fit enough for the bench last week in Croatia due to a patella tendon problem in his knee. The weekend's postponement gave him an opportunity to recover, but he has been ruled out of the game against Salzburg.

What Potter said: "Eddie will miss the game. Eddie has responded well, but his knee has bothered him for a bit. I don't think it'll be long, but we need to give him some time."

Potential return date: Unknown

N'Golo Kante

The French midfielder picked up a hamstring injury in the eventful 2-2 draw with Tottenham last month and is still on the road to recovery.

What Potter said: "Eddie will miss the game, so will NG."

Speaking on August 26, former Chelsea boss Tuchel said: "With N'Golo, we are talking about weeks. We are talking about four weeks plus."

Potential return date: Unknown.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang's jaw was broken by house robbers just days before swapping the Camp Nou for Stamford Bridge. According to The Times, the Blues flew the 33-year-old out to Milan to be fitted with a mask so that he could feature as soon as possible.

His treatment obviously worked, with Aubameyang featuring for Chelsea versus Zagreb last week. Again, with a number of days extra recovery without action, the striker could be match fit and raring to go in a first start for the club.

Expected return date: September 14 - Salzburg (H)
