Édouard Balladur, the former French prime minister who became one of the defining figures of France's centre-right during the final years of the 20th century, has died at the age of 97.
Balladur died on Monday, 31 August 2026, with the announcement made by French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu. His family said a private religious service would be held, while tributes quickly followed from senior figures in French politics.
