Edinburgh woman gave up office job of 30 years to start brand new career as carer

An Edinburgh family have shared how they have all ended up working at the same care home after each leaving different careers to do so.

Katrina Early, her brother-in-law Archie Kerr and Margaret Bourhill, who is married to Katrina’s cousin all work at Aaron house, a 65-bed nursing home offering care for elderly residents and older people with mental health conditions and cognitive challenges.

Speaking about her change of career, Katrina explained she had worked in an office role for over three decades until both of her parents were diagnosed with dementia. Caring for her mum and dad for four years, she decided to leave her job and start a new career as a carer at the home in Penicuik, which ended up being alongside her other family members.
