Edinburgh Wetherspoon pubs ranked from best to worst according to TripAdvisor

A cheeky Wetherspoon can be a meal, or merely a pint, that can bring anyone together at any time.

Whether it be an after-work relaxer, or a celebratory pint on your holidays, 'Spoons can be a reliable constant in many's lives.

There are many Wetherspoon pubs and restaurants in Edinburgh, most of which are busy at any time of the day.

Teens go for their first pint, older people go for a wee half-lager throughout the day, and families go to feed the kids and get a friendly spirit and mixer to get them through the day.

But, which Wetherspoon is the top-ranked in Edinburgh? TripAdvisor has the latest rankings, with one popular pub coming out on top.

The Sir Walter Scott - Three out of five stars

Coming in at the bottom of the table is the Edinburgh Airport 'Spoons. Many reviews call the menu "overpriced", with portions "tiny" and "overcooked".

The Sir Walter Scott's service is rated three and a half stars, with food, value and atmosphere all listed at three stars each.

One review read: "Ok for a drink but the food is absolutely dire. Nothing healthy on the menu and why is everything so high in calories!

"If I’m going to have a treat meal like a burger and chips at least it should be tasty. Wish I hadn’t eaten here it made me feel grim!"

The Booking Office - Three and a half out of five stars

Service and value for money was rated a reasonable four out of five stars at The Booking Office - but the food drops to three and a half.

One reviewer said that this Wetherspoons is "what you would expect", as they said: "One thing about a spoons is you know what to expect.

"Called in for breakfast a couple of times. Food was good and service was quick."

The Foot of the Walk - Three and a half out of five stars

Food, value for money and service all served at four out of five stars at The Foot of the Walk in Edinburgh.

However, the atmosphere was lacking, getting just three out of five stars.

One review read: "Went in with my wife for lunch on Monday and was glad to see the Fish and Chips is on a deal every day instead of Fish Friday. Excellent meal , great prices and great staff."

The Alexander Graham Bell - Three and a half out of five stars

Service and value is not an issue at The Alexander Graham Bell pub, but the food and atmosphere is a bit of a let down, according to reviewers.

One reviewer said: "I am normally a wetherspoons fan however called in for an early tea on curry night.

"I have no Idea how they made the naan so bad. Cold in parts and rock hard in others? Chicken and chips portion also very small."

Overall a 3.5, but definitely could be improved easily according to TripAdvisor reviewers.

The Playfair - Three and a half out of five stars

The food is rated highly here, as well as value for money and service from waiting staff - but the atmosphere is not as desirable as the other aspects of The Playfair.

Reviewers praised the cleanliness of the place, as one reviewer hailed the staff for "working very hard to clear the tables".

However, one reviewer said the pub was "bloody freezing" and said staff refused to close the door as they had to serve food into the outside area.

The Caley Picture House - Four out of five stars

Food and service are second to none in The Caley Picture House, with pubgoers complimenting the little bits of the buildings history "dotted" around the place.

One reviewer praised the company for the location of this establishment, as they said: "Hats off to Wetherspoons turning an old picture hall into a stunning venue!

"Typical food and drink offering which is great value for money, decor is great and service was very good."

However, one customer was displeased with the level of security in the area, as they claim they were treating every entrant as a "criminal".

They added: "'Friendly' security could learn that not every person needs to be treated like a potential criminal.

"Overall, a lot of potential. Just get the right people to work for you."

The Standing Order - Four out of five stars

Atmosphere-wise, this pub is popular among all types of pubgoers, with service and value for money also ranking high at four out of five stars.
The food was lower, at three and a half stars, but many reviews held the George Street Wetherspoon in extremely high regard.

The Standing Order was one of three 'Spoons pubs in Edinburgh that one reviewer visited, and they couldn't praise the establishment enough.
The customer wrote on TripAdvisor: "Over several weeks we have visited three Wetherspoon pubs in Edinburgh and have grown accustomed to their familiar cuisine and conversation in a Musak free place.

"Thanks for this respite from public house obsession with piped music.

"Thanks also to hard working friendly staff clearing tables and who handed me a key to the mobility challenged toilet with a smile.

"We're Wetherspoon walking converts to their remarkable building conversions."

The White Lady - Four and a half out of five stars

And finally, we have come to the top-rated Wetherspoon in all of Edinburgh - and it's not even in the city centre!

Half a mile from Edinburgh Zoo, The White Lady Wetherspoon on St John's Road garnered four and a half stars out of five on TripAdvisor.

Even one reviewer, who stayed over in the hotel, said it was the best Wetherspoons they had ever visited.

They said: "Probably the best Wetherspoon we’ve ever been in. Stayed in hotel with typical Wetherspoon decor but clean and had everything we needed.

"Place was clean thanks to hard working staff and food was good. Great location for easy bus connections into Edinburgh city centre."
