Edinburgh weather: Met Office issues yellow weather warning as cold snap continues

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning over the weekend for more snow and ice.

A cold snap from the north will bring snow flurries, freezing temperatures and ice across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Temperatures are set to drop through out the evening on Saturday March 11 and the yellow weather warning is in place from 6pm until 6am on Sunday.

The Met Office report that on Saturday evening the east of Scotland can expect sleet and snow as temperatures drop to 0C.

The weather forecasters explain: "Sleet and snow initially will turn to rain and spread east overnight. Likely to be quite light and drizzly at times with a lot of mist and cloud."

Sleet is forecasted to fall from 2am on Sunday morning right through to 4am as it will feel like -2C through the night and then temperatures will rise from 2C from 6am, as the yellow warning lifts and reach 10C by 1pm.

Looking into next week, temperatures are set to be remain cold with them plummeting to -2C on Tuesday at around 2am.

Daniel Rudman is a Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster. He said: “There is an increasingly strong signal for colder air to once again feed into the north of the UK during Monday. This flow is likely to extend southwards with much of the UK likely to be under the influence of colder conditions overnight into Tuesday.

“Tuesday is set to remain a cold day, but it is not expected to be as cold as conditions have been this week, and there will be brighter periods for most. There are likely to be some showers too, although any snow fall is expected be over higher elevations.”
