Residents can expect that some roads and railways will likely be affected by longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
Following heavy rain that caused flooding across the capital temperatures are now set to drop which could see a blanket of snow covering the city as it welcomes in the New Year.
Temperatures tonight are set to see highs of 5c and showers around midnight on December 31. Revellers attending events that take place outdoors have been advised to take the weather into consideration and dress suitably for cold spells and rain.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Spells of hill snow developing over southern Scotland Saturday evening will gradually clear northwards by the end of the night."
They added: "Some sleet and snow may fall down to around 100 m at times but bulk of accumulations will be above 200 metres where 2-5 cm of snow is likely for some and perhaps 10 cm on some of the highest routes."
