How to keep safe in the snow as Edinburgh set for heavy flurries

Meteorologists at the Met Office have advised pedestrians and motorists to be warier when travelling in the snow this week. Planning ahead before setting off in a car or to a mode of public transport is essential, as delays and road closures could be likely.

Driving in the snow has its own dangers, with motorists advised to drive in a high gear, maintaining a safe and steady speed, and also giving cars in front and behind you plenty of room should something happen suddenly.

Scotrail has also issued a warning to their passengers this morning to stay safe, as some areas of train platforms could be slippery underfoot, meaning there is chance of injury.

They wrote on Twitter: "It was another cold one last night so if you're heading out this morning please take extra care as some platforms and pathways may be slippery.

"We'll be working hard to keep them salted and safe. Be sure to keep an eye on the app for the latest service info."
